About GiveMeaning.com

GiveMeaning.com is a website owned and operated by GiveMeaning Foundation, a public charitable foundation based in Vancouver, BC., Canada.

The concept was created by Tom Williams and launched in Canada in December 2004.  Since then, the GiveMeaning website has helped hundreds of Canadian charities raise funds and awareness for specific charitable projects. Tom volunteers as GiveMeaning’s CEO and does not receive any compensation for his work.

GiveMeaning.com is a platform designed to make fundraising for your favorite Canadian charity easier than ever before.  Though some people browse the GiveMeaning website looking for interesting projects to support, the majority of donations to any of the projects hosted at GiveMeaning.com come through the extended network of friends, family and colleagues of the “Project Founder,” our name for the person who submits the project to our website.

Anyone can submit a project proposal through the website, but only proposals accepted by a Canadian registered charity can fundraise through the GiveMeaning website.

A proposal should outline a specific, tangible outcome that can be accomplished by a Canadian charitable organization, should the project be approved and accepted for fundraising.

Once a proposal has been submitted at the website, it has 30 days to collect 100 votes of support.  It is the responsibility of the person submitting the proposal to collect the votes for their own proposal. While anyone with a valid email address can vote for a proposal, we suggest to all Project Founders that they collect votes from people most likely to make a financial contribution to the project, should it be approved for fundraising.

GiveMeaning charges a monthly hosting fee of $9.99 for each project page hosted on the GiveMeaning website.  It is up to the Project Founder whether they wish to pay that fee personally or whether they have that fee deducted from the total amount raised through their fundraising page.

In addition, GiveMeaning encourages but does not require donors to a project to make an additional tax-deductible contribution to GiveMeaning Foundation to help cover its credit-card and customer support costs.  No other fees or charges are deducted or charged.

GiveMeaning’s privacy policy does not share any contact information of its donors, and each donor has the choice of making contributions anonymously or acknowledged publicly through the website.  Names are acknowledged on the website but contact information is never shared.
