Silent Masked NO POKIES March, Sydney, Australia

Type: Blog

Duty of Care Incorporated is an Australian community association that is committed to making our communities safer by banning poker machines unless those who use them can be protected more safely from gambling addiction and over-spending. The poker machine is a 'purposefully designed addictive, unsafe product' that impacts unfairly upon normal human beings because it messes with normal human thought processes.

People are not 'defective'...rather the product, the industry and the governments who allow these machines and who have the money to peddle them as 'harmless fun' ...are 'defective'! We call on all individuals and community groups to join us at the masked march...wear a mask that shows your feelings about poker machines...and join us at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour, Sydney on the 24th of August 2008 at 10.30am.

It is intended that the event will be a 'curtain-raiser...to develop across the world in ALL areas and countries where EGM addiction is rapidly growing....to be a protest across nations on one chosen day per year...to get our message to governments that we will not tolerate poker machine harms any longer!

Hi my name is Libby Mitchell and Sue Pinkerton, Lana O'Shannassy and I extend a warm invitation to all community groups to come along to the NO POKIES march! Show YOUR group's attitude to poker machines and your concern for the losses from problem gambling and over-spending that occur, from poker machines.
If you are in another country and you are interetsed in working in together...we are looking for world partners who will all protest on the one day in 2009....we may be able to get a Guinness world record together!

Mask patterns are on our site... dutyofcare.org.au

or help by emailing your friends everywhere to spread the word that something is brewing in communities. Victoria Australia alone lost $2.6 billion last year...a lot of money to be gone from families' and other responsible community traders' pockets!
