Trips for Kids (TFK) Vancouver is a non-profit society with a vision of a world in which outdoor recreation is made available to everyone. We do this by working with local youth organizations and schools to offer both day trips and overnight mountain biking adventures for low-income and inner city youth in the Lower Mainland of BC.
Many young people in the Lower Mainland have never experienced the wilderness areas within or around their home cities due to various barriers. Children and youth who have to deal with poverty, addiction and language barriers as part of their daily lives are not exposed to the recreational opportunities that many other children are fortunate enough to have and many succumb to street life. Using the mountain bike as our vehicle for change, these kids are able to experience the beautiful wilderness areas within and just outside the confines of the city; often being the tool they need to raise their self-esteem and broaden their horizons and attitudes to healthier, more constructive habits and lifestyles.
Trips for Kids takes care of all the details. We provide the staff, transportation to and from the trails, the bikes and equipment, snacks, educational learning themes tailored to each group, and of course the fun! Each trip teaches both personal and technical skills with the opportunity to build knowledge and confidence through our rides series. Based on participant feedback, we know that our programs provide the elements for fun, education, participation and success; all of which build confidence, self esteem, and self worth.
Thank you for your consideration of our program. Our consistent program growth and the increase in youth able to participate over the years is largely due to the generous contributions of people like yourself.
