The Crystal Meth Society of BC works to stem the tide of Crystal Meth in our communities. We came to this work after seeing the effects of meth first hand here in Victoria.
We began by seeking out resources and information everywhere we could think of. It soon became apparent we would need to work to create many of these desired resources.
We built our website - www.crystalmethbc.ca ... Please visit :-)
We spearheaded a Community Task Force that involved over 100 volunteers.
The Society continues to work the areas of Education, Enforcement and Treatment.
Education:
The Meth Info Show arising from this start has been delivered to over 17,000 school kids to rave reviews. This program is 37 minutes long and fits into a single school period. Have your kids seen this show yet? Contact us to bring it to your community.
We distribute T-shirts, silicon wristbands, brochures, posters etc to raise awareness about the dangers of Meth. The Meth Info presentation has been delivered across BC, and in Ontario and Labrador. There is a large audience out there that needs to see this presentation. With your help, we can make it happen.
Enforcement:
The Society assisted the creation and implementation of Clandestine Lab Bylaws region wide, and have sent this model out to communities across Canada. In 2006 the Society wrote and saw adopted a Federal Resolution urging the Canadian government to create and deliver a policy on Crystal Meth. In late 2007 Federal Minister of Health Tony Clement announced a new National Drugs initiative that used language re: crystal meth that was very similar to our resolution. We were encouraged by this. We seek to further the delivery of resources via education and treatment options to Canadian school children and families, and met with federal government representatives in Ottawa this Dec. 2007 for that purpose.
Treatment:
The Society acts as the messenger to help assist community partners and government to their urgent opportunities to deliver treatment resources. We played a critical role in the successful opening of the 'Hope House' Meth Rehab facility, a 6 bed resource for Meth invloved Youth, this Feb. 2007.
We provide Practicum placements for University and College students in Nursing, Child and Youth Care, and other disciplines, to learn about meth, help deliver education in the schools, and graduate to the front lines as the 'go to persons' for knowledge and help on the meth topic.
We work for the delivery of further such resources in this and other communities. We have worked in conjunction with community and government partners to help deliver two Regional Meth Conferences in BC thus far, with others forthcoming. We see many families facing incredible pressures trying to find solutions for their children in distress. We seek to promote delivery of these solutions.
The Crystal Meth Society of BC became a registered Charity in 2006. We seek and request your financial help to continue to deliver on the goals of the Society; nimble, economical, accessible resources for children and families in combating the pernicious influence of Crystal Meth in our communities. Please make a donation.
