Our Story:
Vancouver based guitar maker (luthier), Jay Duncan has pledged to spend at least three years in the village of Mpigi, Uganda, training young people to build world class acoustic guitars.
These guitars will become available in the United States, Canada, and the UK within a few years.
While in school, our students will learn english, math, computers, basic business and worldview. Upon graduation, they will qualify to continue their studies if they choose.
As the students complete the 4 month course, they will be invited to create their own co-op style company. We will then purchase and distribute the guitars for them, and all proceeds will pay for humanitarian aid programs in the village of Mpigi, and surrounding villages. These programs will be implemented by local men and women and will encompass the areas of education/scholarships, health/disease prevention, water, sanitation & electricity, and micro-enterprise.
Our goal, developed along side local leaders, is to be able to remove ourselves in eight years. At this point the village of Mpigi will be growing economically, and will become a new role model for economic development in the third world.
We have a large task ahead. Please take a moment and consider how you might aid us in our bid to permanently deal with extreme poverty.
One village at a time.
Sustainable.
Thank you.
