The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Society for British Columbia, governing body for The Asante Centre for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is requesting help for their Intervention Program. We are a Centre that provides assessment, diagnosis, family support and intervention services, and education for children, youth and adults living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and their families. The Asante Centre was created as a result of many parents, and individuals, who could not find effective services; and a paediatrician, who has grown up with individuals with FASD and has passionately cared for them through their years; from infancy to adulthood.
They found other professionals with the same passion and have created an amazing team consisting of Pediatricians, Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Social Workers and an incredible administrative team. We strive to provide care in a safe, non-judging, confidential environment.
The children and youth we serve will have some difficulty with language, learning difficulties and social and adaptive skills. Without effective intervention and management many of these children will have significant trouble at school, develop mental health issues and have difficulty sustaining employment and living independantly, as they grow older. With effective intervention, these youth can lead very productive lives within our communities.
Many of our families are unable to afford these interventions and for this reason we are looking to provide families with 50 sessions of intervention therapy, support and family education.
