Hello all!
Andree is returning to Burkina Faso this November-December working out of AMURT run health clinics in Bissiri and Deou, Burkina Faso.
This project's goal is to improve health and nutritional outcomes and build local capacity in rural West Africa.
Andree is a Canadian Registered Nurse with 43 years of intensive care, acute care and cardiac nursing experience volunteering her nursing skills at AMURT run health clinics in Bissiri and Deou, Burkina Faso. She will provide primary care to clinic patients, train, mentor & support local clinic workers and outreach staff, provide health education and outreach support to the surrounding communities, and outfit the clinics with much needed medications and nursing/medical supplies.
This will be Andree's fifth volunteer nursing trip to West Africa and her second to Burkina Faso.
The Bissiri clinic is managed by two local community nurses, who work without physician or hospital support and minimal training. The clinic is often the only source of healthcare for a population of 2,000 farmers and locals seeking care. Currently the clinics rely heavily on donations from foreign volunteers to provide needed nursing equipment, medicines, training and support. The focus is currently on the needs of women and children. Under the guidance of the organization AMURT, efforts concentrate on creating sustainable community based projects to be independently run by the local people. Details on the work done by AMURT can be found at www.amurt.net.
By donating to this project you are allowing us to purchase medications, nursing and medical supplies, dressing supplies, send patients to the hospital as needed to receive interventions beyond the safe scope of the clinics, purchase outreach learning materials, train staff, and generally attend to the needs of the communities we are working with. This year we are looking into incorporating a feeding program into the provision of healthcare, as we found last year that lack of access to food and water were major concerns affecting the health of our patients.
Your donations via GiveMeaning will not be used for personal travel expenses to and from Africa and any deficit between our proposed budget and donations raised will be paid for by us. If you have any fundraising ideas, would like to help with travel expenses, or have any questions about us or our project, please do not hesitate to contact us at abamfort@shaw.ca or volunteernurses@hotmail.com.
Please note 2011 tax receipts are available for all donations made to the project via this site!
We thank you so very much for your support.
Wishing you peace and good health,
Most sincerely,
Andree and Stephanie Bamforth
