The purpose of the "Grassroots Project" is to raise enough money to drill a well for a community in Africa. Why? One-fifth of people on earth do not have access to safe drinking water. Every 15 seconds a child dies from drinking bad water. In Canada, we are blessed with an abundance of fresh water and an infrastructure to provide for this essential need. We would like to do our part to provide the same basic need to others, especially the children. On Tuesday, April 3rd we are inviting family, friends, and friends of friends to a casual evening of live music, song and conversation at Chai restaurant in an effort to bring attention to this cause. All monies raised will go to Lifewater Canada, an organization dedicated to "empowering people to help themselves." Volunteers train local crews to drill and maintain wells at schools, orphanages and in villages. Not only is a basic need met, but the cycle of disease and poverty is broken by providing access to safe water. Our goal is to raise $3000 from the "Grassroots Project" evening event and online donations.
