On August 16, 2004, I badly fractured my left hip and Dr. James Waddell performed a 7.5 hour emergency surgery.  After months of rehab, it seemed like a miracle when I regained the use of my leg.

Unfortunately, within about a year, I developed a bad case of arthritis and related pains so on December 4, 2006, Dr. Waddell did a complete hip replacement. You can see both sets of metal on the attached X-ray.

Now, eight months later, at age 63, I feel like a new person. I am without pain and to celebrate my recovery, I plan to bicycle about 2,000 kms. from Vancouver to Regina, without any support, carrying about 35-40lbs of gear.  I leave on August 9th and return on September 2nd.

With your support, I would like to raise
$10,000
to contribute to hip replacement research and to honour my surgeon.

By doing this ride, I also want to demonstrate that with a bit of determination challenges can be overcome. The monies raised. which are fully tax deductible, will support basic research to help others at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto.

Thanks in advance for your financial help which will be a great morale booster for me as I am sure to face a few hills and headwinds along my journey.
