I work for an organization called Saint Leonards Society of Nova Scotia (SLSNS). They are a not-for-profit charitable organization that operates two homeless shelters and two halfway houses in the HRM. I have spent just over a year working at Barry House, the emergency homeless shelter for women and their children (and even their pets!). Swim10 is an amazing fundraiser for Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia.Over the next few months and until September, I will be training extensively with my team members (there are now only 8 of us all together), and will be travelling to Greece in September where we will be swimming 25 km around and through some of the Greek Islands. Each of us will be raising $6,200.00 and this money will be going towards SLSNS to help out the men and women that we work with every day.

When I first heard about the Swim10 project, it was at a training day presentation in back in October. I remember thinking that the idea was really great and raising over $6000.00 would be phenomenal, but also remember being disappointed because of my inability to swim well. As December rolled around, I remember talking to some of my co-workers and friends at the Christmas party, as well at Bill Pratt, the executive director of SLSNS- they convinced me that learning how to swim was not impossible and that they would help me as much as possible. For some strange reason, I agreed and now here I am.

To be honest, I only learned how to swim last summer and even then, I only really learned how to stay above water (mostly… haha). This is a huge challenge for me- not only do I have to train to become a stronger swimmer, but I have to learn all of the basics that I should have learned when I was 5. I have already begun this process with the help of a few great friends (and the vows of others to help me learn), and I have been surprising myself every time I get back into the pool. I still need a lot of help with my swimming abilities, but I also need your help to raise the funds to make this all possible. Any way that you can help me accomplish my goals will be greatly appreciated.
