Help us build a new house for deserving children in Ethiopia!
All of AFC’s sixteen children are living with HIV/AIDS. The home is a family-like environment where children grow up in a surrounding akin to typical childhood. Individual attention is paid to each child as our child-to-staff ratio is unparalleled in Ethiopia. All of the children attend school and receive medical attention, including anti-retroviral treatments. Another unique aspect to the care is the incorporation of art as a way to heal the children who have faced extreme living conditions, run by our art therapist. The children also participate within the Ethiopian community as spokespeople for HIV/AIDS awareness. The children’s activism ranges from radio shows and TV interviews to their writing of a book called “Floating Dreams” about their lives and HIV in Ethiopia. One of the children also gave a speech at UNICEF’s 60th Anniversary, held in Addis Ababa.
The children are eight years of age or over and all receive the medications they need, and are a wonderfully happy bunch. Working To Empower has joined with AFC in a partnership to help run this home, our goal for 2007 is to build a new house for our children, to date the house has been rented.
