OPERATION: PWN THE KONJAH!
Konjah Creek. Liberia, West Africa. There are 10,000 people who live on the wrong side of a swiftly flowing river. The bridge was blown out during the Liberian war, which is long ago over. During the dry season, sometimes vehicles can pass or individuals can wade across. But most of the time, the water is too high for anyone to get across - cutting off the villagers from food, medicine, and trade.
The local Chief - a very dedicated and proud man - makes the long trek into town every week to try to reach out to find someone who can help his people.
He's found a great, completely volunteer nonprofit called NACA willing to step in and help. They've found an engineer to design the bridge - and raised half of the 30k they need to build it. Our friend Cori works in Africa and knows the good folks at NACA - and signed on to help with the bridge. Now she's come to us - and we're coming to you.
The Chief's people are all counting on him and are eager to do whatever they can to get this bridge built. They're going to provide labor, food for the workers, and anything else they can to get this done. Literally, they're giving everything they have.
But they only have half of the money and time's running out. If they don't get the bridge built by the rainy season, they'll be stranded without access to food or medicine. The rainy season starts April 1st. The bridge must be built by then. Time is short...the people are desperate...
We heard about their plight and thought - hey, $15k to save 10,000 people from misery? That's pretty damn do-able. We can't do it alone but maybe if we use the power and glory of youtube and friends of friends of friends.....
We've worked it out to this:
The bridge needs to be 101 feet. We need $15k to build the bridge. That's only $150 a foot. ONLY $13 an inch! Donations are tax-deductible. So donate already! There's a bridge in Africa waiting to have YOUR NAME on it!
QUESTIONS YOU MAY BE ASKING...
QUESTION: How do you know this isn't an African email scam? C'mon? A chief??
ANSWER: We've done our homework. If you need our cred, check out the project founder page for info on the person who's leading this charge, a personal friend. Or go to her website: www.girlseeksworld.com . She's worked in Africa for years.
QUESTION: Will this money really get to where you're promising? How do you know?
ANSWER: We're making sure personally. We're going to Liberia on our own dime (well, on Todd's Dukes of Hazzard 2 residuals) to make sure it's spent the way we're promising. We'll bring you video from over there - including when we somehow attach a lunchbox containing all your names to the side of the bridge.
QUESTION: I want to make tshirts that say "I PWNED THE KONJAH". Cool with that?
ANSWER: SEND US SOME!
QUESTION: I have more questions.
