This project seeks funds to complete a school in Uganda, East Africa, so the kids can return to classes. This school is specifically for orphans and special needs students in the Bulaga community in the district of Wakiso, Uganda.
As you see, i have posted a new picture of the school project as it stands todate. The money you kindly donated bought the iron sheets you see on the building. Thank you very much for the donation and please donate more money so that the entire roof gets done.
History of the Project:
A school for orphans and special need children was originally identified by the Bulga community as a high priority need. Community members started the project in the two rooms of the community meeting building. The school was successful and attracted a lot of students from the community and neighboring communities, and there became a need for more classrooms.
Land was donated by community members, plans were created for a new schoolhouse that would have facilities for special needs children, including accessibility. A foundation was created for this school; monies were raised through arts and craft sales of products made by local community members, through dance and drama performances by the children, and community charity walk fundraisers. This school had the full support of the community.
The original plans called for the new school to be opened this February, 2007. However, due to additional financial demands the school is not yet completed. An additional $1600 remains to complete the school.
To make matters worse, the old school has been deemed 'unsafe' to be used as an educational facility (since it was originally a community meeting building) by the Education Authorities. This means that the children are not currently in school, and can not return to school until the new school is built. So the children went home for the holidays and have not come back.
$1600 is being requested to complete the school and get the children back to class.
Please help make this DREAM come true.
