While shooting a documentary film in Malawi, Africa in January 2007, we
(the film crew) encountered a small grassroots organization called the
Muumodzi Interfaith Group.  The
Muumodzi is based in Lilongwe (Malawi) and
is made up of both Christians and Muslims who work together to create
effective community solutions.
Muumodzi promotes dialogue amoungst all
religions, with education and projects focused primarily on HIV/AIDS
prevention and the care of widows and orphans.

Our short visit with
Muumodzi resulted in interviews with HIV positive
widows, visits to a local mosque and church (both of whom were supporting
between 100 and 150 orphaned children each) and to a small village where
maize was distributed to a much needed people.  As inspired as we were by
the number of lives they were impacting with their programs, we were most
struck by the way in which they brought together community leaders from
different faiths to work together to solve local problems.

Funded almost entirely by the local community through membership fees,
from people who make less than $1 a day on average, we were humbled by the
commitment displayed by this group's leaders and supporters.   Our goal,
is to provide this group with funding over the next two years.

For this we ask your help of a donation, anything that you care to
give.  It would have great meaning to a people, that can make a difference
in the lives of many, a world away.

The Muumodzi group was started with the support of Salama Shield Foundation, a progressive registered Canadian charity that promotes participatory development and culturally relevant programming particularly focused on HIV/AIDS prevention.
