Who we are...
Moldova Vision is an Irish ngo founded in 2006 to support community development projects in Moldova in Eastern Europe. It was started by a group of Irish volunteers who wanted to make a difference in tackling poverty from the ground up, see www.moldovavision.org.
Where we work...
Moldova is a small but beautiful country with a fascinating history, culture and people. Moldova is often cited as the poorest country in Europe but great advances have been made in recent years and steady economic growth achieved. Following Independence in 1991 Moldova is slowly re-building its economy and social and political structure after decades under Soviet rule. Growing numbers of tourists pay tribute to its hilly, unspoilt valleys, wine culture and historical buildings and churches. Beyond the bright lights of the modern capital Chisinau the reality for many Moldovans is somewhat different. Many families and communities, affected by mass emigration and high unemployment, are desperate for a way out of the cycle of poverty.
The Project
Our first major project is the construction of a new community centre in a small town called Cosnita. The Centre will offer services for children with disabilities, young people and older people. We have now built the centre but urgently need funds to cover the running costs as it is scheduled to open in September 2008!
We are hoping to raise $3,600 through GiveMeaning, which is the total salary costs for one year for a speech therapist and physiotherapist (see Budget). These staff will work with children with disabilities from the area - there are currently no such services in Cosnita.

The new Centre in Cosnita will be completed by end of August.
