The Regina chapter of Souls in Stride is raising funds to support the work of Dr. Joe Lusi and his wife at the Heal Africa clinic in Goma, DRC. They have set a goal to raise $26,000 in 2009.

Regina’s Souls in Stride chapter works with other local groups in the community for fundraising efforts: the AdventureHers, Daughters of Africa and the Congolese Association of Regina.

About the clinic
At the clinic, Dr. Joe Lusi performs fistula surgery to repair damage perpetuated during acts of rape. The women require three months to heal, and while they are healing, they are given the opportunity to learn how to read and write and learn a trade. As well, they leave the clinic with a goat, a sack of seed and a hoe. Why? Victims of rape are often shunned, however, coming back to their communities with these three goods puts them in the league of agribusiness operators – and they are gladly welcomed back.

At the clinic the body, head and hearts of the women find healing and, in turn, these women return to heal communities. It’s smart community rebuilding and healing work.
