After the success of our first project to raise money for New Futures Orphanage (formerly KHKOBYC), we are starting a new fundraising project.
New Futures Orphanage is home to 49 children aged 6-17 years. The orphanage is currently seriously underfunded, and we have recently had move to a new building, after the previous landlord sold the home we were originally using to house all the children.
In addition to this, the global financial crises and rising fuel and food costs have led to a huge rise in the cost of rice in Cambodia, from $19 a bag to $28.
Rice is the main part of the children's diet, and one bag of rice lasts us just two days. Therefore, our daily running costs have increased considerably.
Our proposal for this project is to raise $1,000 to buy chickens, fish, plants and other sustainable food sources, in order to help counteract the growing costs of food in Cambodia. In addition to easing our financial problems, it would also teach the children valuable skills in self-sustainability, farming and caring for animals & plants. It would even improve the variety of the children's diet and the number of different food groups they are eating, thus it would also be of nutritional benefit.
