Sierra Leone has spent the last five years in reconstructing our country in the aftermath of a 10-years brutal civil war ,Impoverished and scarred from warfare.
The people especially the youth have been abandon and left with out any means of housing, Educational neither medical facilities. Recently after our open forum wich was organised in collaboration with youth group and children living on the street. It was agreed at the forum that a Home should be created for the street children. The pathitic phlight about the hole situation of these children is that they pass their daily life doing odd jobs like totting,sweeping etc to get their daily living. Most of these children when night arrive is a real night mare as they have no means of housing facility and all they have is the market tables and corners of the street to sleep.
After several months of feasibility studies, research, consultation with organization dealing on street children and organizing an open forum themed youths on the street ,we can there fore justify that most of these children do live on the street doing odd jobs with out any means of education, housing neither medication which leads to high crime rate and high mortality within the communities. With Limited access to Education, Housing and medical facilities is what lead to Young Girl to do Prostitutions for as much as Fifty United State Cents, which is approximately Le 1,500. Living under these conditions in many ways caused the brutal civil war of Sierra Leone and now these children are still on the streets doing odd jobs and engagin in criminal activities to sustain themselves.
The ultimate aim of the Youths off the Street Project is to provide a home for street children living on the streets with out any means of survival through our multi faceted development programs.
- To create a home for street children that are in diffuiclut cirumstance
- To train youth leadership qualities as they are future leaders.
- To engage these youth on development activities rather than doing odd jobs.
- To advocate for the Homeless and the child Right Bill to be approved in Sierra Leone.
- To serve as a platform for youth groups/ schools NGO and individual interested in getting information about youths on the street.
- To Provide Shelter opportunities for street children by using local material
- To exchange ideas knowledge on how to find problem affecting street children.
- To provide Educational opportunities for the less affordable.
The targeted beneficiaries For the Youths on The Street project are mainly youth between ages of 3 to 17 Years. 70 youths are to benefit in the beginning by providing them with low cost Shelters, The home will be backed by a primary school to engaged the children on educational activities. These children will have to be at the school until they finish primary school after recolate them to a secondary school that our will partner with. Provide recourse on latest information and news of the world. On ward generating of the project will be used to expand the project activities.
For the home with the help of our Community Eldres ,have donated a 3 town lot of land for the establishment of the Home. The Construction of theHome will be made out of our locally produceed materials and will be Plastered up with cement inorder to minimise the cost.. There will labor from the youths who will be living at the center.
