Project Update-
Nepal House continues to move forward as it helps traumatized children in Nepal. We thank all of you who have supported us and we continue to seek new partners and friends as we try and make the lives of traumatized and ill children a little less painful.
Nepal House now supports over 10 orphanges by providing the children and staff of these orphanges counselling, assessment and and an opportunity to heal from emotional and psychological wounds. We also attend to the physical needs by ensuring that kids see doctors, and educational needs by helping kids learn at their own pace and in a way that is respectful to their needs.
Who We Are
Nepal House Society and its partner Nepal House Kaski (in Pokhara, Nepal) are not for profit societies whose aims are to alleviate the emotional, mental and physical distress of children in Nepal. Twelve years of conflict have left many children orphaned, traumatized and placed them at risk for further exploitation. By working with local orphanges, social workers, schools and concerned citizens we hope to provide some relief for these children. We also want to provide Nepalese people with the skills to become counsellors to support these children.
UPDATES
Project Update- Summer 2008
Our Counselling center is up and running and children from various orphanges from the Pokhara Valley are being helped. Our next goal is to open up the residential phase of the project to provide short term treatment and assessment for children living outside the Pokhara Valley. To do that, we need beds, mattresses, dressers, desks and other furniture. This is our current goal. We hope that you can give us a hand and make this happen. December 2007
This past December, Nepal House Kaski, our partner organization in Pokhara opened the doors to their counselling center in Malepatan. November was busy with many days and hours spent painting and getting the house ready. Many friends came on a daily basis to help us clean and paint and in general prepare the house.
On December 11th, we had a house blessing ceremony (Puja) which was attended by Board Members, friends and family members of the counsellors and many children. In Nepali culture a house blessing is seen as instrumental before moving into a home, or in our case, before opening our counselling center for children. After the ceremony everyone shared in food, including other families in the neighborhood.
On December 26th we had our Grand Opening. Along with friends and family, numerous other organizations were in attendance. They were given a chance to view the play therapy, art therapy and counselling rooms. They were also given a chance to view the children's rooms which will open in the summer of 2008, which will allow children from outside the Pokhara Valley to receive care and support while staying in a safe and supportive environment.
We have three counsellors on staff and moral support from the community. Donations help us to maintain our counselling center, pay the salaries of the staff (counsellors, house mothers and child care wokers), and to ensure that children are being looked after phsically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We Thank you for your support.
