The Tree of Life for Animals is a animal charity set in a small corner of Rajasthan, India.
I would like to help fund the start of a puppy vaccination programme to target the large number of stray puppies encountered at the Tree of Life for Animals (T.O.L.F.A) veterinary hospital, who are suffering and dying from vaccine preventable diseases.
Each vaccine given will protect against a total of 7 diseases, but the 3 that T.O.L.F.A commonly sees on a daily basis are Rabies, Distemper and Parvovirus.
- Rabies: An incurable disease affecting the nervous system, that can be transmitted to humans and other animals through biting.
- Distemper: A debilitating condition causing fever, respiratory problems and loss of appetite. Those who survive are often left with permanent nervous tremors.
- Parvovirus: A disease causing severe haemorrhagic diarrhoea and vomiting that can lead to massive dehydration and with no treatment, death can occur within days.
India has the highest human death rate from rabies in the world and this scheme will benefit the local population in which rabies is a real threat. Through the vaccination of as many dogs as possible we can prevent the death of the individual dog and protect the dog population as a whole.
