Each year over 2,000 school children in Labrador are provided with a nutritious snack through the IODE Snack Pack Program.
This IODE program has been serving remote communities in Labrador since 1978. Shipments of breakfast food and snacks are delivered in late August by boat. In 2007, the IODE Snack Pack grocery bill was $22,417.90.
Items shipped include: milk, juice, crackers, peanut butter (upon request), cheese spread, cereal, jam and apples.
This program is funded primarily by personal donations. Your generous support is greatly appreciated by all those who realize that feeding children boosts academic achievement.
One teacher wrote, "This program is of great value. With stomachs that no longer ache with hunger, the children are much better able to learn and therefore develop skills that hopefully will helpt to improve their lot in this world."
