In the fall of 2010 I will be part of a group of 10 people who will be going to Greece to compete in a 25 km swim that will raise awareness and money for the Saint Lenard’s Society of Nova Scotia. Each team member is required to raise over at least $6, 200 for this organization. This non-profit establishment depend on their community to help their less fortunate clients. The money raised will befit both men and women, and both at risk adults and youth.
Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia
The Saint Leonard's Society of Nova Scotia (SLSNS) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization responsible for the operation of 2 homeless shelters and 2 halfway houses in the HRM. Over the years of operation, SLSNS have helped thousands of people in transition from crisis back into their community.
Sir Sanford Fleming House
Sir Sanford Fleming House utilizes an effective, modern and practical approach to the age old problem of reintegrating people who are being discharged from prison(s) into the general community. It is an approach consisting of supervised residential service in conjunction with counselling and job placement. Sir Sanford Fleming House can accommodate 21 male residents.
Nehiley House
Nehiley House provides a safe and supportive accommodation alongside protecting community safety. This house has supportive female-centered programming and case planning for successful community reintegration. Their goal is to build and strengthen community partnerships that will facilitate a successful transition and foster community education and to provide information and support phone line for women on conditional release who reside in the community.

Metro Turning Point
Metro Turning Point is a year-round, 24/7 center which has expanded services under a high support, 'harm-reduction model'. Metro Turning Point Centre's Night Shelter Service is for men, aged 16 and over, who may have faced barriers in accessing alternate resources while experiencing homelessness. Metro Turning Point Centre also endeavours to house individuals and their pets, where possible, in order to help keep both out of the cold.
