Project TINMAN presents:
The World's Biggest AIDS Ribbon
Project TINMAN’s main fundraising initiative is the construction of the World's Largest AIDS Ribbon. The ribbon--which will ultimately be 100 000 sq ft in area--will be sold to individual sponsors and corporate benefactors. Individuals will be encouraged to personalize their space with their hopes for the African Continent, while we hope that corporate benefactors will view the project as a novel opportunity in cause related marketing, and purchase larger areas on the ribbon to showcase their corporate responsibility. The WoBAR is an ideal vehicle for TINMAN, whose ultimate aim is to help transform some of the economic spin-off from our resource endowment into life saving treatment for those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
The completed ribbon will bring in $1 million, which will be allocated to Dignitas International, a medical humanitarian organization committed to providing a quality of life with dignity for children, youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS in resource-poor settings. In particular, it will be helping to fund Dignitas' Malawi Pilot, a project being carried out under the auspices of the University of Toronto. At the heart of the pilot -- and in congruence with TINMAN's objectives -- is a strategy of scaling up access to HAART treatment, towards the ends of both treating and preventing HIV.
The Malawi pilot is headed in part by James Orbinski, who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of Médecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors without Borders) in 1999. It's aim is to create an evidence-based intervention strategy for communities afflicted by the AIDS pandemic.
To contribute to the project by purchasing an individual square online, feel free to do so by giving through GiveMeaning. Personalize your square by adding your comments when you donate, and they will be transferred onto the Ribbon for you. Minimum donation / sqft is $10; suggested donation is $24 -- reflecting the cost of HAART treatment + supportive care for 1 month*.
