Hello Friends,
I'm going to volunteer for a year in Sierra Leone and need your help to raise money. My goal is $1000, so any little bit will help!
The organization that has arranged for me to work in Africa is VSO Canada (Voluntary Service Overseas). Their website is located at www.vsocan.org. The money you donate to my project will go directly to VSO to help cover the cost of sending me overseas.
My estimated departure date is October 25, 2008. I'll be volunteering for one year as a nurse at the Makeni Government Hospital, Sierra Leone, to help train the health care aids. The health care aids have no training but they function as nurses in the hospital, for which they get paid peanuts! The hospital, which serves Makeni and surrounding communities, has only one doctor, no running water or electricity, and very, very few resources.
