Our sincere thanks to all who have come here after reading the article on Yahoo! Hot Zone. Please review all of the information available here, including details of our budget, which includes school for Yubaraj and assistance to his family.
A note about our fundraising goal: We've received donations by check that bring our Amount Raised above $7,700 ~ in other words, we reached our goal!!! Because Yubaraj's sisters and brother and so many other children in Bethan would benefit from our support donations received after April 4 will be dedicated to funding their school fees (about $12 per month per child).
We hope you'll choose to participate by clicking on the "Donate Now" link in the upper left corner of this page. Thank you so much for becoming a part of this project and Yubaraj's future! ~ Christine Egger

In May 2006, Yahoo! Hot Zone journalist Kevin Sites wrote about Yubaraj Khadka, a Nepalese boy who had been supporting his family by parking motorcycles on the streets of Kathmandu. The article (at http:\\hotzone.yahoo.com/b/hotzone/blogs4389) describes an intelligent boy who accepts his responsibility to his family but wishes he could return to school.
Many people who read about Yubaraj wanted to find a way to help him, and a small group developed this project for the purpose of making that happen. Our goal is to collect $7,700 for Yubaraj's education and family support. If we collect more, we’ll launch a related project such as repairing Yubaraj’s house (it’s in disrepair and his family is living with neighbors) or supporting the nearest school to Bethan and the education of his brother and sisters. If we collect less, we’ll invest what we have in another education option for Yubaraj, such as a vocational training program. With guidance from Yubaraj and our partners in Kathmandu, we’ll invest our funds wisely regardless of the amount we have to work with.
GiveMeaning will distribute 100% of all donations for Yubaraj to the Mountain Fund, a registered 501c3 that GiveMeaning has completed due diligence on. Please read our project blog for more information about the Mountain Fund and the other project team members.
It’s important to recognize that we’ll get to know Yubaraj well over the next few years and he’ll get to know us, too. We want to know what his hopes and dreams are, and we want him to know that we believe in his ability to create the kind of future he wants to have.
It’s exciting – and a privilege – to think we have an opportunity to participate in Yubaraj’s life in this way. We sincerely hope you will join us and thank you for supporting this project!
