About
Working as a Humanitarian Photographer has also instilled within me an even deeper urge to help and give back in other ways. That is how Cameras4Change came into being. Initially I was using my camera to engage on a human level with people's lives, then I was asked to develop a short curriculum to work with youth in Haiti. The experience of teaching camera and writing skill to youth was transforming and instilled the idea on a deeper level.
Cameras4Change helps to bring support and awareness to specific issues through blogging, story-telling, and workshops. Teaching media skills through still camera, video, creative writing technique and social media skills, we open doors and possibilities to those in need. Each year we work on and partner with hand chosen projects in 1 or 2 countries to support an organization and the community it is in. We also provide the tools for other organizations to maximize their potential in getting the message out. In short, we are about transforming lives.
The money raised from Cameras4Change goes towards the hard costs required to give that support and deliver the programs. We work directly with our partners to determine what the needs are for each individual project or workshop and what their budget and contribution will be.
Recently we worked in Kenya with PACHA and the Nyeri Good Shepherd Orphanage to create a database of imagery for them to promote the needs of over 300 HIV/AIDs orphans.

In
Petite Riviere
Haiti we worked with a group of youth teaching photojournalism through clean water awareness in the community ending with a public street exhibit engaging everyone!
We are also working with Project X Impact from the USA to bring support and awareness to FGM and Child Marriage through Kenyan partners.
A Pilot project in Uganda with Sawa World, David Kiwanuka will be teaching video and journalist skills to community members to act as their own agents of change.
Our experience has shown that no matter how brief, the connection with others is transformative.
Currently Cameras4Change consists of myself, Barb Briggs and David Kiwanuka. Barb, a photographer with a strong background in not-for-profit, NGO's and international development, brings her skills in research & program evaluation to compliment Cameras4Change.
David Kiwanuka is a talented videographer with experience in sound and editing. A Ugandan living in Vancouver, his enthusiasm to contribute and knowledge of life in Africa make him an invaluable part of the team.
We are excited to take this forward!
