Deep down, at Mujja Village a school was founded in 1999, to cater for the educational needs of the future leaders of Uganda, this community project was spearheaded by Mr William Mugambwa, a parent of the same village.
He told me that, at that time there was no school in the entire village of Mujja, and many children where unable to find a place to study, very few families could send their children to distant schools. The distant school were as far as 10 Kilometres!
The community could only afford to grow food to feed their children, and this was also becoming hard because of the growing scare from HIV/AIDS.
The villages was faced with many challenges, and there was a huge need to confront the challenges, and the first was to provide education to their children. To give them a start in life and be able to change their community in the future.
From his words, he said that it was not an easy task, with no classrooms, no money and no furniture.
But they were enthusiastic to have the school established.
Community members got together, and volunteer teachers came up, to start a school but under tree shades. Teaching was first conducted under shades of trees.
This was proving hard because children would not attend classes on rainy days.
This was another challenges, and the community members got together to put up a mad classroom structures.
During this time the village was at the height of the AIDS scourge and man power towards the building of mud classrooms for their children was decreasing.
Many strong were dieing and others bed ridden, and women were busy looking for food and taking care of their husbands.
Young men were leaving for towns and the city to look for casual work.
Despite all that, the remaining few healthy men in the community. Continued with the building whenever they could get time for it, and a school was made to stand.
At this point it as seven grades, P.1, P.2, P.3, P.4, P.5, P.6 and P.7 .
With three different blocks, unfortunately all STILL MUD AND WITH GRASS ROOF!
A mad house was also put up to accommodate the children who come from further communities and cannot commute daily due to the long distance.
The good news is that, for the past 3 years, this school is the only one in the entire Sub County which has produced the best Candidates in the Primary Leaving Examminations, PLE as it is commonly reffered to in Uganda.
Thanks to the support from the communities members, and the great work done by the Headtecher Mr William Mugambwa.
This achievemet has not come easily though, children in Nelson Mandela Primary School have to use hand made parrafin Lamps during their prep ( night studies)
These children are risking their lives with this practice though there is nothing for them to do, and that is why we, just we have to do something to HELP THEM and to avert any possible dangers they could get from studying from this terrible enviroment, and under such conditions.
They need atleast two good classrooms, to start with.
Their current project is to build a permanent structure for classrooms, the community has mobilised bricks and sand for this, and now they need iron sheets and cement to make this happen.
This community needs $2130, for this particular project to come into reality, and it is their request from you.
Your kind generosity shall help change a lot for these children and for the community in general.
Thank you AND BE BLESSED
