On May 31, I left Vancouver with 28 other riders and set off for
Tijauana, Mexico. It took 7 weeks to complete
this journey!
"Now, why would anyone want to do that?" you ask. (Don't worry, lots
of my friends said the same thing, especially my mom) - that is, until
they found out why.....
I am raising pledges for Microcredit. It is something I am proud to talk about and help with. It is not even a one time hand out of charity to those that need it.. It is something that can be given over and over again. Read ahead....
Muhammed Yunus received a Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding this idea. It is a cause founded to
help poverty stricken families by providing tiny loans. These loans go towards starting a buisiness to sustain the family, and then are paid back once they have their buisiness rolling. The pay back rate is 97%. The fund is then alloted to the next person who needs it.
I was given the opporotunity to visit real microcredit projects in Mexico. These were people that were directly helped by the microcredit movement. It was one of my most unexplainably favorite experiences.
If you want to see something amazing go to http://www.kiva.org There you will see actual applications for microcredit from people around the world.
Wow.
Anyways, I am really looking forward to fundraising further
and biking for this cause. If you decide to donate, know that every
dollar you put into it is working just as hard to help someone as you
may have worked for it. Thank you!
Also, even if you can't donate you could still help out by emailing others about it. Click "Spread The Word" next to my picture.
